What You Need to Know about Prostate Infection
Prostate infection is very serious as it can disrupt the male urinary and reproductive system. The prostate gland is an important component of a male's reproductive system. It is responsible for secreting fluids that form a major part of the semen and activates sperm. The prostate gland is located in front of the rectum, just below the bladder and envelops the urethra. When there is prostate infection, there could be inflammation and swelling of the prostate. Prostate infection is the most common prostate-related problem in men below the age of 55. Prostate infection usually afflicts men between 30 to 50 years old. An estimated one in three men will experience prostate infection at some point in their lives. The Causes of Prostate Infection Prostate infection is as known as prostatitis can be classified as into 4 types. They are acute bacterial prostatitis, chronic bacterial prostatitis, chronic abacterial prostatitis and pain in the prostate or prostatodynia. The causes and symptoms of prostate infection can vary. Some patients experience no symptoms at all, while others suffer very severe symptoms. Acute bacterial prostatitis is the least common of all prostate infection. Bacterial prostatitis is an infection caused by the bacteria found in the large intestines or urinary tract. The prostate will swell and may also spread to the bladder. Patients may experience chills, fever, body aches, painful or difficulty in urination and frequent urination. Fortunately, this condition is easily detected and treated. Treatment uses antibiotics and non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to reduce the swelling. Chronic bacterial prostatitis is another less common type of prostate infection. It is a condition associated with a defect in the prostate gland and persistent presence of bacteria in the urinary tract. It can be caused by trauma to the urinary tract or by infections from other parts of the body, which has spread to the prostate. A patient may experience pain in the testicles, lower back pains, difficulty in urination and frequent urination. This type of prostate infection can also be easily treated by antibiotics and NSAIDs after removal of the defect condition. Although the two types of nonbacterial prostatitis account for approximately 90% of all prostatitis cases, researchers have yet to fully understand the causes of these conditions. Some researchers believe that some unknown agents can cause chronic nonbacterial prostatitis while other believe that heavy exercise and lifting heavy object can cause these nonbacterial prostate infections. If you experience any of the symptoms mentioned, you should seek medication attention immediately. It is necessary to treat prostate infection as early as possible as well as to maintain good prostate health in general.
